Our regular monthly excursions
MBOG outings are for BirdLife Western Australian members and their guests. Members of the public are always welcome to join the walk and are encouraged to bring a pair of binoculars.
Bring a chair and morning tea to have while the bird list is compiled.
Suitable footwear, sunscreen and clothing for bushwalking is recommended.
A caution – wetlands hold healthy mosquito populations! When visiting apply an appropriate insect repellent and/or cover up.

Our regular monthly excursion for October
Lake McLarty, Birchmont - Friday 24 October 2025
Lake McLarty is an integral part of the Peel-Yalgorup System, and is included on the List of Wetlands of International Importance as Ramsar site number 482. A large lake (219-hectare) with high water levels in winter and spring, Lake McLarty is an accessible and very popular spot for bird watching.
Common species that may be seen in August include ducks, swans, coots, grebes, red-necked avocets, stilts and herons. Kites, sea eagles and swamp harriers patrol the sky above the lake.

Getting there:
From Forrest Highway, turn onto Mills Road and drive about 6km until you reach the Lake McLarty Nature Reserve sign and a 70km zone sign. Park near the gate on the right.
Our regular monthly excursion for November
Nairns (Coodanup) - Friday 28 November 2025
This half-day excursion will focus on observing the diverse birdlife of Nairns. Participants will have the opportunity to spot migratory shorebirds, pelicans, egrets, terns, and a variety of duck species. Ospreys are also frequently seen in the area.
For those interested in extending their outing, the Creery Wetlands are located nearby and offer further birdwatching opportunities after the main excursion.

Nairns is situated at the end of John Street in Coodanup. Please meet at the car park next to the Nairns bird hide. For directions, click here to access Google mapping.
